WAVE: Women Against a
Violent Environment

"Violence against women ... is a leading cause of injury for American women between the ages of 15 and 54, but it can happen at any age." -- U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, Office on Women's Health

Women Against a Violent Environment (WAVE) was initiated in 1989 to increase public awareness of the murders of Rochester, NY area women. WAVE's objectives were to raise individual consciousness so that the murders, assaults and rapes of females in our community did not occur unnoticed; to empower women and girls; and to stop this violence. We must recognize that all women are at risk.
