To Local Anti-Abortion Leaders:
Stop Clinic Violence
and Murder
January 23, 1999
Rochester NOW calls upon local "pro-life" leaders to
end the campaign of anti-abortion terrorism.
We
implore local anti-abortion leaders to demand that their followers
work within the law and stop the attacks -- both verbal and physical
-- which target Rochester's abortion providers and women's health
clinics.
Rochester and Buffalo have been targeted by Operation Rescue for a
weeklong gathering of anti-abortion activists, April 18-25.
We
call upon local anti-abortion activists Jerry Crawford and Rev. Norman
Weslin of the Lambs of Christ to pledge their followers to
non-violence. We appeal to Bishop Matthew Clark and other religious
leaders immediately to begin a public campaign denouncing
anti-abortion terrorism and urging non-violent protests in April. We
ask Mayor William Johnson and County Executive Jack Doyle to proclaim
that any attempts to shut down women's health clinics and to attack
doctors and staff who provide abortions will not be tolerated.
We
urge all local anti-abortion leaders to work with their national
leaders to end the anti-abortion terrorism. These leaders have a moral
obligation to call upon their members and supporters to turn-in anyone
who has committed or are planning violence. In addition, they need to
stop using hate language that incites violence in their extreme
members, demand that the Nuremberg Files web site that lists doctors
who perform abortions be taken down, and end the harassment of doctors
and clinic staff at their homes and offices.
NOW
is determined that abortion will remain safe, legal and accessible for
all women.
