Rochester NOW To Protest Promise Keepers

Rochester NOW members will protest the Promise Keepers "Storm the
Gates" conference in Rochester. (June 14 - 15, Blue Cross Arena)
"We are going to expose Promise Keepers for what they really are,"
stated Marsha Peone, Rochester NOW president. "The message they give
to men is for husbands to honor their wives but to do so by taking
back their role as head and master of the household. This is not about
respecting women. This is about taking control."
Promise Keepers call for women to "submit" to their husbands.
NOW has been in the forefront of exposing Promise Keepers since
1995. NOW repeatedly has asserted that Promise Keepers is not a
religious movement as they claim but a political movement. Many of the
leaders of the religious right have publicly supported Promise
Keepers. Their agenda is sexist, racist and homophobic.
