Rochester NOW Declares State of Emergency
July 6, 2005
At
its annual convention, members of the National Organization for Women
received the disturbing news that Sandra Day O'Connor had resigned
from the U.S. Supreme Court.
"NOW is prepared to fight against any nominee who would turn back the
clock on our civil, economic and reproductive rights," stated Alberta
S. Roesser, President, Rochester NOW. "We will make sure that our
Senators reject any nominee who is not committed to protecting those
rights."
"The rights of ALL are in jeopardy and we will not be silent," she
said.
"This is yet another pivotal moment in women’s history, but we will
prevail," continued Roesser. "As Susan B. Anthony said, 'Failure is
impossible.' We in Rochester will do what is necessary to protect and
defend those rights. We are declaring a state of emergency for women
and for our Constitution."
