Applauds FDA Decision To Approve Mifepristone
September 28, 2000
The Rochester chapter of the National Organization for Women is
pleased and relieved at the FDA's decision to approve the use of
Mifepristone (also known as RU-486) for early abortions. This method
of abortion, used in the first 7 weeks of pregnancy, has been used
safely and effectively for the past 12 years in Europe. It has been
kept from American women by anti-choice politics, and we thank FDA
Commissioner Dr. Jane Henney for standing up to the politcal pressure.
We also thank the local doctor who did much of the research on
Mifepristone in Rochester. We are proud to have Dr. Eric Schaff in our
community.
