Rochester NOW Political Action
Committee Endorses
Tim Mains for Rochester Mayor
October 19, 2005
The Rochester
Chapter of the National Organization for Women through its Political
Action Committee is pleased to announce that we are endorsing Tim
Mains to be the next mayor of Rochester. Tim has a long record of
support for women’s issues. In fact, Tim has himself been a member of
the National Organization for Women since the mid-70’s.
NOW members are well aware that Tim has not only supported all of the
issues which are important to our organization, but he has worked hard
to do something about them. Some examples:
Tim has traveled to Washington, DC and participated in demonstrations
with NOW members and other feminists regarding the issue of women’s
reproductive rights.
He has worked diligently for economic equality for women. In 200l,
for example, he helped get the Living Wage ordinance passed in the Rochester City Council.
Four
years ago, Tim sponsored a civil rights bill for the City of
Rochester, which included protection based on sexual orientation and
gender identity, and this measure went into effect well before Albany extended such protections
statewide.
Tim has campaigned for the Equal Rights Amendment, which the National
Organization for Women has high hopes will be passed in the not too
distant future.
Tim is a committed and vocal advocate for non-violence and for
anti-violence measures in general. He is a trained mediator and sits
on the board of directors for the Center for Dispute Settlement.
The Rochester NOW PAC is very excited about Tim’s proposed Rochester
Children’s Initiative
that, among other things, will give families the much needed help with
daycare issues, health, nutrition and school readiness.
Most
of the candidates for Mayor of Rochester have an interest in the
issues that are
dear to NOW member’s hearts, but Tim Mains is the only one who has
really gone the extra mile for these issues in a meaningful way.
That’s why the Rochester NOW PAC is supporting Tim Mains in this
campaign for Mayor.
