Rochester NOW President
In Washington, DC Saying "No on Alito"
January 9, 2006
Alberta Roesser, President of the Rochester
Chapter of the National Organization for Women, is in Washington, DC
this week working to stop the confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito for
the Supreme Court. Roesser is meeting with Senate staffers and phoning
people around the country to generate phone calls and emails against
Alito.
"This confirmation hearing is of such historic
importance that I had to come to Washington. I am working as hard as I
can to make sure Senators understand how Alito could reverse decades
of progress towards equality for women if he gets on the Supreme
Court," stated Roesser.
"I am concerned not only about Roe v. Wade being
overturned but the impact of this nomination on affirmative action,
violence against women, birth control, and sex and race discrimination
at work. Alito's track record on these issues is terrible for women
and people of color," she continued.
Roesser is participating in a campaign to Stop
Alito organized by the National Organization for Women, the Feminist
Majority Foundation and the National Congress of Black Women.
